If you are a long-time reader, you know that I have been working on a series of essays based on true stories—both mine and from a number of different women. What started out as a small project of about 20 perspective pieces swelled to 60 different essays on life, love and the search for Prince Charming.
Tone-wise, I’ve said that “My Letter to Fear” falls somewhere in betweenThe Vagina Monologues and Love, Loss and What I Wore. I say that because it does mix very serious topics with things that are humorous (and sometimes a little silly), and even some of the most serious pieces have a touch of humor. It posed an interesting problem when it came to publishing—what category does it fall under? Which shelf would you find it on in a bookstore? Internally, I’m still debating the issue: drama, women’s studies, essays, monologues, humor? They all fit. When I land on one, I’ll be sure to let you know.
In the meantime, I’ve just started a contest for the book cover on 99designs.com. I really like a couple of the options I’ve seen so far, and I might have fallen in love with one of them this morning. You know what this means? It means that I’m that much closer to actually getting it published.
I’m excited, and just a little bit terrified, to let it go out into the world. I’m shooting for first quarter 2014. It will be available in formats for your favorite e-readers and in print form through Amazon. So, stay tuned!
